Solar generators made in China

This is an update to a blog post I did about 4 years ago.  Grid Eraser is always asked to compare and contrast our system with these competitors - whether it be Goal Zero, Humless, Ecoflow, Titan, Patriot, Bluetti, etc.  In our opinion they do not compare because these products are manufactured in China.

These are companies here in the U.S. that contract manufacture these products in China.  It's easy to find out, go to alibaba.com and put in solar generators in the search box.  You will see multiple pictures and companies that make these solar generators and just put whichever companies logo on them.  The four main Chinese companies that make these are below and are located in the port city of Shenzhen in Guangdong province.

Most of these solar generators with solar panels are roughly in our price range and some may be cheaper.  However, keep in mind the detail of the components inside these generators.  They have lithium ion batteries which are lighter but have inherent problems with fire and do not do well in high heat, and they are made in China.  These batteries also have problems fully recharging.  Also, the inverter, charge controller, and thin gauge wiring are also made in China.  And the biggest problem of all is that they are stuffed in a tight box with little or poor ventilation.  We have heard that the fans run all the time on these generators.

Here at Grid Eraser, we custom build every one of our portable solar systems.  We try to use only quality made in the U.S.A. components or at least in North America.  We use Xantrex, Morningstar, SunXtender, sometimes Rolls, and custom build our stainless steel cabinet locally in NE Florida.  Our only concession is the solar panel, but we use Sunpower panels with the Maxeon cell and they are made in France.  Most of the Chinese lithium ion batteries are only 74 A/H, that will not power large appliances or multiple devices for very long.  Keep this in mind - I recently purchased a led desk light at Walmart that was made in China, it said it would last forever - it quit working after only 2 months.  Read our customer reviews, we have generators built years ago that are still going strong.  And when you need to replace your batteries, you don't need to buy a new system to keep going for another 10 years plus.
